POSITIVE WORDS
POWERFUL RESULTS

I urge you to read this book, I can't recommend it highly enough!

Hal Urban, a man passionate about teaching and who has a great love for young people, started his career as an author when he first wrote the book Life's Greatest Lessons (20 things that matter) which was originally written for his 3 sons and was published under a different title.  Hal was shattered when at 29 he and his wife split but even more devastating was the news that his sons couldn't live with him.  His wife moved over 400 miles away.

Hal was given the book Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl which helped him immeasurably.  It didn't restore his marriage but it helped him to think differently about his circumstances.  He said it was one of the most invaluable things that he'd ever learned.

Life's Greatest Lessons wasn't an overnight success but by word of mouth it became a success story.  However Hal felt that a great deal of material had to be left out and so he wrote another book, Positive Words, Powerful Results.  An inspirational read indeed and more so if you implement some of his ideas into your own life.  Tom and I (Joanne) have done that and we have noticed the different, see the changes in our relationship, the improvement in our lives and that of family and friends.

The Dirty Thirty

Hal Urban has asked the following questions hundreds of times in the classroom, in workshops and on airplanes and in casual conversations - people of all ages” “What kind of language drags you down?  What are some of the things you don’t like to hear other people talk about?”

From these questions Hal came up with a list of what people don't like to hear and called them the Dirty Thirty, things such as bragging, rude and inconsiderate language, ethnic and racial slurs, gossip, angry words, embarrassing and humiliating people.  Read the book to learn what else is on this list and strive to ensure they aren't part of your day to day language and you avoid people who speak in this manner.

"Careful with fire" is good advice we know.
"Careful with words" is ten times doubly so - William Carleton

Hal Urban's books are full of inspirational quotes, appropriate for the message he is trying to convey such as:

THE POWER OF WORDS

A careless word may kindle strife.

A cruel word may wreck a life.

A bitter word may hate instill.

A brutal word may smite and kill.

A gracious word may smooth the way.

A joyous word may light the day.

A timely word may lesson stress.

A loving word may heal and bless.
