Set in the beautiful historical and conservation area of Dalyan – Turkey - Voted Best Open Space 2008 by the Times.

Spectrum Turkey is a purpose built yoga & activity centre (onsite massage & therapy available on request) nestling at the foot of mountains with running water alongside.  A tranquil retreat, with total privacy and shady locations due to the surrounding trees and the neighbouring fields of pomegranates and other produce such as sweet corn, sesame and citrus trees. Situated 1 mile on the outskirts of Dalyan, a village set in a conservation area due to the turtles nesting on the beach 11 kilometres away. Dalyan is located on the side of a river meandering down from Koycegize lake (7th largest in Turkey), out to the Mediteranean sea; only separated by a maze of reed covered delta and a 7 kilometre beach.  Most visitors comment on the magical, almost healing atmosphere; you are surrounded by natural colour therapy with the benefit of fragrant aromas.  A truly fabulous location.

  • Peaceful, tranquil surroundings – no light pollution so you can benefit from the joys of the night sky and the milky way
  • Traditional Turkish village-style home grown & locally produced mostly organic VEGETARIAN food
  • Relaxing, natural environment which you can enjoy with like-minded company

Briefly... for Yoga & activities such as walking, bird watching, painting or simply wanting to BE.  A vegetarian vacation in Dalyan - one of south west Turkey's best kept secrets ... Spectrum Turkey venue is certainly different and somewhere special as you can see in the following photographs, notice the rainbow coloured orbs.  We feel it's a special sign and highlights the beneficial feelings we get when we visit this location.

First day of actions towards creating Spectrum Turkey - note the rainbow orb!

Yoga & Workshop Space

Only 1 Mile from the centre of the village, surrounded by farmland, close to the mountains, and only Turkish farmers living anywhere nearby, this landscape invites you to heal your mind & body and nurture your soul. The scenery is stunning, watch the sunrise over the mountains and the change of colours in the rocks, notice the natural formations and transformations when the sun sets – absolute bliss!  By day you will be enveloped by natural colour therapy and at night you will benefit from a majestic night sky where you may see shooting stars and can clearly make out the various constellations - we have computer software to help you recognise the various planets you can see at different times of year and you can follow the changing night sky.

GOOGLE PHOTO OF SPECTRUM TURKEY LAND - CAN YOU SEE ANY NEIGHBOURS?

Spectrum Turkey's land is to the right of the large strange looking "dotted" field (the dots are orange trees!). Our land looks small compared to the ones around it, long and narrow, but it's 6,300 square metres and is very spacious, perfect for a yoga venue. Running water separates us from the fields on the right. The nearest building to us is where the circle is - top right hand corner of the photograph. It's a small bungalow style home at the edge of a huge field of pomegranate trees - this photo was taken in 2004 - as you can see we are surrounded 360 degrees by farmland.

Guests arriving for the first time are always amazed at the stunning location, the wonderful healing environment and the history of Dalyan and this coastline in particular.  Kaptan June is often a visitor to Spectrum Turkey (she campaigned to prevent the build of a huge hotel resort on the beach and thus saved the turtles, getting the likes of David Bellamy on board and numerous others too – now in her mid 80’s) and she may join you for an evening meal and regale you with any or many of her life experiences, particularly those in Dalyan over the years and how she lived on the beach when she first arrived.

Spectrum Turkey is surrounded by sustainable living, combining traditional lifestyles, organic gardening, renewable energy, environmentally conscious tourism and the practice of the healing arts.

Introduction to the Spectrum Turkey location: Dalyan

The sea is known as the Turquoise Coast, referring to the beautiful blue waters.  The beach is a protected area due to the Caretta Caretta turtles nesting there and so it is only open during the nesting/hatching months (May to Oct) from 8 am until 8 pm.

Dalyan Delta from above

The river meanders through the reed covered delta and opens into natural lakes/lagoons, one of which is the mating area of the turtles – the water is warm beneath the surface, about 1 metre down, as the river has many natural hot springs along it’s route. The river comes from Koycegiz lake which has several mud baths and hot spring pools along the way – ask Joanne and Tom to tell you where the natural springs and mud baths are that most tourists aren’t aware of.

Spectrum Turkey Centre is in an historical area known as Dalyan, a village set in a conservation area, surrounded by history (Ancient city of Caunos, once an important city, is across the river together with Lycian Rock Tombs which face Dalyan village and can be seen across the fields), a farming (land and river) community of 2,000 people mostly along the river banks and village centre but Spectrum Turkey is situated amongst farm land, 1 mile away from the hustle and bustle.  We are surrounded by mountain views and a short walk to the foot of the mountains will give you a glimpse of the sea beyond the delta, sparkling in the distance, only separated by the 7k beautiful golden sandy beach from the lush delta and fresh river water. The centre is ideally placed to benefit from the daily breeze and from shaded areas created by the trees lining the sides and the fruit trees newly planted. Olive, citrus, pomegranate and fig trees to name but a few surround the area. Much of the surroundings are protected as a nature reserve and there is a feeling of tranquility and serenity.

Turkey is steeped in the mysteries of ancient history, and known as Lycia (the land of light). Described by Homer, the Lycians were independent seafaring warriors, who settled here around 1400 BC. The most distinctive archaeological features are the unusual rock-cut tombs, copies in stone of their houses and temples. These are also prominent in the local port town of Fethiye (ancient Telmessos) 1 hour from Dalyan and more accessible, in addition to Pinara, another ruined city. More recent history can be seen at Kaya Koy an ancient Greek village known as the Ghost Village, vacated when the Greeks went back to Greece in 1923.   We have a copy of Birds Without Wings, a novel based on facts about this village.

The Lycian Way is a recently designated long-distance walk that passes through beautiful parts of Turkey just over an hour from Dalyan commencing at Fethiye, running through Kaya Koy, Olu Deniz and Faralya (above Butterfly Valley region) and continuing along the coastline to Antalya via hundreds of kilometres of mountain paths.

“Spectrum Turkey is a place of extraordinary beauty and stillness - a rare gem of a holiday.”
