THE DUCHESS
Not a therapy or self help book but I enjoyed the movie which is a
true story and so this book is on my wish list. The Duchess of Devonshire is actually related to the Diana,
Princess of Wales, and lived a very similar life in that she married someone older than her - he didn't show her
love and affection, simply wanted an heir to the throne. But her story does show how we can overcome the
challenges that are sent our way and that money (she was wealthy within her own rights and her husband
was one of the wealthiest men in the 17th century) doesn't buy you happiness!
Georgiana (The Duchess) has to put up with a lot with her husband,
not that she sees a lot of him, his affairs, taking on the responsibility of looking after one of his children from
one of his affairs (when the child's mother died) and even giving up a child of her own which is the result of an
affair she has. She wrongly assumes he will turn a blind eye to her affair seeing as he has moved one of his
mistresses in to their home! This illigitimate child is a distant relative of Sarah Ferguson.
Unbelievable but true!
